Anaconda Facts
Anacondas are the largest and heaviest known snakes. Can be found in tropical rainforests, lakes and swamps of South America. They are usually near amazon or orinoco rivers. Even if they are large in size, scientists cant find them that easily, because they hide in the water, camouflaging. People hunt them because of their beautiful skin, but luckily aren't endangered. Anacondas can be 30 feet long, so imagine a school bus, which weighs up to 550 pounds, like 11 kids. Males are smaller then females, whereas females are larger then males. Anacondas grow their entire life, so technically they don't stop growing. They are usually dark green, with big black patches of black.
Anacondas can stay under water for 10 whole minutes before they come out to grab some air. They like to eat fish, turtles, caimans, cabybaras, pigs, jaguars, deer. If they don't get big prey, they end up eating 40 pounds of food per day. Anacondas hunt during the night. Anacondas live 10-12 years in the wild and up to 30 years if they are in captivity. Baby anacondas can live alone once they are born, they are 1-2 feet long.
